Comprehensive Mining Farm Infrastructure Calculator Hash Grid AI

This precise engineering tool covers every aspect of the technical design of a mining farm in a single flow; from electrical calculations and Electrical Panel design to air-cooling analysis and Immersion systems, Network Topology design, and generation of precise engineering diagrams — all based on the international IEC, ASHRAE and NFPA standards.

Miner Models and Power Specifications

For each Miner Model in the farm, search and select the desired unit from the unit list so its power draw is filled in automatically; then enter the Device Count. Adding several different models with different quantities is supported. Note that actual power draw in operating conditions may differ from the rated value; this difference can result from overclock settings, Ambient Temperature, input voltage, and grid power quality.

i The actual power draw of ASIC Miners varies with temperature, voltage, and firmware settings. For a more accurate calculation, use the average actual power measured under operating conditions. Miners' startup inrush current can reach up to 7x the Rated Current, which must be factored into MCB breaker selection.
Physical Rack Layout

Specify the number of racks and the average number of Miners installed per rack. The product of these two values must exactly equal the Total Miner Count entered in the previous section. This information is used to calculate PDU Layout, per-row power distribution capacity, cable routing design, the Cooling system, and Network Topology.

Each rack typically has a capacity of 42 to 47 units (U). Standard Miners are 1U or 2U.
Average number of miners per rack. Used to calculate the breaker for each rack.
! Rack count × miners per rack = must equal the Total Miner Count. If there is a mismatch, the system will show an error.
Electrical Panel Design Parameters

This section is used to precisely calculate all Electrical Panel Equipment for the miners. Diversity Factor accounts for the probability that not all Miners are on at the same instant — in mining farms this value is typically between 0.85 and 0.95. Power Factor specifies what percentage of Apparent Power (kVA) converts to active power (kW); Miners with SMPS power supplies typically have PF = of 0.90 to 0.95.

Typical value: 0.90 to 0.95 for ASIC Miners
Typical value: 0.85 to 0.95 for mining farms
Power distribution unit for a row of racks. 80% of capacity is usable.
Number of ports per access-layer switch. Typical: 24 or 48 ports.
Temperature inside the panel used for Equipment capacity correction calculation
i Per IEC 61439, the capacity of breakers and cables decreases as temperature rises. At 40°C, the temperature correction factor is ≈ 1.0, but at higher temperatures this factor drops below 1.
Electrical Facilities and Cabling Parameters

This section is used to calculate the Main Cable (Main Feeder) size, MCCB circuit breaker, and Transformer and Capacitor Bank. Voltage drop in distribution circuits is a key limiting factor — per IEC 60364-5-52, voltage drop in distribution circuits should not exceed 3%, and 5% for the total circuit.

If PF is below 0.95, a Capacitor Bank is recommended.
Distance from the Transformer to the farm's main panel
IEC standard: max 3%. Lower means = a thicker cable.
Extra capacity for farm expansion. Typical: 15 to 30%
i For copper cables, the resistivity ρ = is 0.0172 Ω·mm²/m, and for aluminum ρ = is taken as 0.0282 Ω·mm²/m.
Farm Cooling System

Choosing the appropriate Cooling method is one of the most important farm design decisions. Air Cooling, with a PUE of about 1.4 to 1.8, is the most common method, while the Immersion Cooling System, with a PUE of 1.03 to 1.10, creates significant electricity cost savings.

Maximum Ambient Temperature for worst-case design
Difference between inlet and outlet air temperature. Typical: 10 to 15 degrees
At higher altitude, air density is lower and more airflow is required
! At altitudes above 1000 meters, air density decreases and cooling capacity drops. The Altitude Correction factor is calculated with the formula exp(-h/8000). For Tehran (altitude ~1200 meters), this factor is about 0.86.
Network Infrastructure and Monitoring

Mining farm Network design includes precisely calculating the number of Access and Core switches, CAT6 cabling volume, and surveillance cameras. Star Topology with Collapsed Core is recommended for medium-sized farms (100 to 500 miners). Managed Switches with VLAN, LLDP capability and the IPMI protocol are essential for controlling Miners.

Typical: 24 or 48 ports. 1 port is reserved for Uplink.
Non-miner units that require a Network connection
Network (IP) cameras connected to the switch
Network digital video recording units
i In farms with over 500 miners, using Managed Switches with VLAN, LACP and SNMP capability is mandatory. Recommended internet bandwidth: at least 100 Mbps with SLA per 100 miners.
Safety and Fire Suppression Systems

A Fire Suppression System is critically important for data centers and mining farms. Specific hazards of mining farms include high heat generation, extensive cabling, 24/7 unattended operation, and the risk of Miners' plastic components catching fire. Gaseous systems (FM-200, Novec 1230) are ideal for unoccupied environments. Hall Dimensions are pulled from the Cooling tab.

i The Novec 1230 (FK-5-1-12) system, due to causing no damage to electrical Equipment and having zero ozone depletion potential (ODP== 0), is the top choice for data centers.
